“. . . speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing
and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
Music is by nature and by divine command a central feature of Christian worship. When the members of a local congregation lift their voices in praise, petition, and penitence, they join with the whole Church—past, present, and future; in Heaven and on Earth—as well as with Creation and choirs of angels. Our song is first and foremost directed to our triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Ghost—whose love and power have made us and whose grace and mercy have redeemed us and make us new.
