On Easter Sunday morning, we will sing one of the oldest known hymns celebrating the Resurrection. “Christians, to the Paschal victim” (#97 in The Hymnal) is a translation of a medieval sequence, Victimae paschali laudes. The text is attributed to the 11th-century priest Wipo of Burgundy, chaplain to the Holy Roman Emperor Conrad II. The full text and translation is available here.
