THE JOY & CARE OF CHILDREN II

All Saint’s Nursery Volunteers

Thank you for volunteering for this important ministry to our young ones!

The most important part of your job is to supervise and lovingly interact with the children.

A few more specific guidelines are as follows:

Please arrive 10 minutes before the service starts, to welcome our young ones in time for their families to get to the service on time.

There must be two volunteers in the nursery at all times. If the other volunteer does not come, ask Katy Shonka or Jackie Jamison to come down. There must be a nursery volunteer for every three babies and a volunteer for every eight toddlers. If the ratio of children to volunteers exceeds this, please ask Katy or Jackie to come down.

The top part of the door to the nursery must remain open at all times.

Snack should be provided on the snack blanket part way through the service (approximately 11:00 am – 11:15 am). Sippy cups in children’s diaper bags should be offered at that time.

Volunteers are also asked to put toys that have gone into children’s’ mouths in a designated spot to be cleaned. Any broken or dirty toys should also be separated so that it can be fixed, cleaned, or removed.

Please help children to share, take turns, and interact well. If a problem occurs that cannot be solved by simply distracting the child, or talking to the child, place them in a short time-out. If a behavior problem is too difficult for whatever reason to handle, please get the child’s parent.

We welcome both men and women volunteers, but ask that only women take children to the bathroom when necessary.

Diaper changes should be made when a child has a dirty diaper or a diaper that is clearly excessively wet. Change the child on the changing table in the nursery. There are extra diapers in the changing table if there are not any in the child’s bag. Please wash your hands after changing a diaper.

All volunteers are required by our insurance and our diocese to have a background check. You will be asked to sign a release to start that process.
