THIS WEEK AT ALL SAINTS

ST. BASIL THE GREAT

MASS SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF Trinity I (June 10, 2012)

11, Monday – St. Barnabas,
12, Tuesday – Feria
13, Wednesday – Feria
14, Thursday – St. Basil the Great
15, Friday – Feria

+ St. Basil the Great along with Gregory of Nazianzus and Gregory of Nyssa are collectively referred to as the Cappadocian Fathers. They were extraordinarily influential theologians in their unqualified devotion to Jesus Christ, in championing the Nicene Creed and opposing the Arians who reduced the Incarnate Word of the Father to a creature. They also opposed just as vigorously Apollinaris of Laodicea who taught that the Incarnate Word of the Father in his divinity essentially eliminated the human nature of our Lord. Basil was indeed one of the greatest Orthodox Theologians and his influence in the liturgy, monastic life and devotion still marks the Eastern Church.

+ Daily Mass is celebrated at 12:15 p.m. You and your family members are all remembered by name at the Altar of God every week. Please take an All Saints parish prayer list home with you & remember your fellow parishioners in your prayers!

+ All Saints’ Men’s Group will meet June 12, 7:00 a.m. in the undercroft.

+ Weekday Bible study of the Gospel of John meets Mondays at 10:30 a.m. If you have questions, please email Priscilla at kingplk@gmail.com or call her at 540-456-6458.

+ Summertime Biblical Greek for curious beginners! This six-week long class will give you the opportunity to learn the ancient Greek alphabet and grammatical structure, read original texts, and study Scripture. Class will meet Monday and Thursday evenings, beginning June 25 and ending August 2, here at All Saints. Each session will last approximately one hour and will follow Mounce grammar text. Everyone is invited! Register for 12 sessions, only $110, by emailing Sean McDermott at mcd.seanedwards@gmail.com. Please register by June 18.

+ Don’t forget that Wednesday School and the Agape are in recess through the summer. Wednesday School and the Agape will resume in September 2012.
