THIS WEEK AT ALL SAINTS

The Prodigal - Guercino - Vienna

MASS SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF Trinity IX (August 5, 2012)

6, Monday – Transfiguration
7, Tuesday – Feria
8, Wednesday – Feria
9, Thursday – Feria
10, Friday – St. Lawrence

+ St. Lawrence of Rome was martyred on August 10, 258 AD in Rome. He is honored in the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodoxy, and the Anglican Communion. He was burned to death in Rome. Constantine built a small church on the spot of his martyrdom. St. Ambrose, who was bishop to St. Monica and St. Augustine, first told the famous story about St. Lawrence gathering the jewels of the Church. According to Ambrose, a new prefect in Rome demanded that he turn over the wealth of the Church. He asked for three days to gather up the jewels. He worked swiftly to distribute all the wealth to the poor. On the third day, with a small delegation, he presented himself to the prefect and when he was order to turn over the treasures of the Church he presented the poor, the crippled, the blind and the hungry. “This is our treasure,” he declared to the prefect. “The Church is truly rich,” he declared, “far richer than your emperor.” It was that act of defiance that led to his martyrdom.

+ All Saints’ Men’s Group will meet August 7, 7:00 a.m. in the undercroft.

+ Daily Mass is celebrated at 12:15 p.m. You and your family members are all remembered by name at the Altar of God every week. Please take an All Saints parish prayer list home with you & remember your fellow parishioners in your prayers!

+ All Saints parishioner may obtain a Mass card from the Church office. A Mass card is a greeting card given to someone to inform him or her that a deceased loved one or friend was remembered and prayed for at a weekly Mass. It is a specifically Christian way to express one’s love. Call Julie McDermott at the Church office and she will fill out the form for you. The celebrant will sign the card and we will mail it from the Church.
